Frequent visitors to this blog would have noticed that apart from fashion I also dedicate some pages to update about beauty and care products that I get to use. When Joseph Simon created a natural formula to heal skin dryness of wives and washer women in Paris, he probably wouldn´t have imagined his contribution would later signal the birth of modern cosmetology of the 20th century. Yes, with a story that dates from 1860 Creme Simon is a skin care brand with a 150 years of history. Back in the day Joseph Simon built his first  apothecary  by the Rhône River in 1860. He would subsequently often come into contact with the French wives and washer women who would gather at the riverbanks  to do their laundry chores, they would suffer from psoriasis and eczema (sensitized and irritated skin) on their hands. Having ascertained that their condition is often triggered by constant exposure to the harsh environmental elements such as cold river water, sun, wind and temperature changes and common skin irritants such as soap. In response Simon created a natural remedy that could relieve their condition. The end product, known as the first cream to contain glycerine, became an overwhelming success. A multi-purpose cream, it was also said to relieve mild abrasions and wounds, insect bites, rashes, and other skin irritations for face, hands and body

Before the 20th century skincare was often limited to unguents, ointments, dermatological salves and cold crams but Joseph Simon´s hygenic and more stable formulation from natural plants and flower extracts known as Crème Simon marked the birth of modern cosmetology of the 20th century.

Cuando Joseph Simon, ideó un preparado para aliviar el maltrato y resequedad en las manos de las lavanderas de París, quizá no imaginó que su aporte sería el inicio de la cosmética moderna. Si, con una historia que data desde 1860 Creme Simón es una linea de productos para la piel con mas de 150 años de tradición. Para aquel entonces Simon estableció su sitio de labores ubicado cerca al Río Ródano. al cual acudían amas de casa y lavanderas a quienes las frías temperaturas del agua, junto con las sustancias empleadas como detergente en aquel entonces, habían causado severas lesiones y condiciones como eczema y psoriasis en sus manos. En respuesta a estos requerimientos Simon creó una formula conocida como la primera crema a base de glicerina que resultó ser un éxito rotundo, empleada para múltiples propósitos.

Para la época, solo se conocían paleativos, unguentos y cremas frías para la piel eran limitados, siendo la formula higienica y a base de plantas y extractos naturales de Joseph Simon el punto de partida de la cosmética moderna.
