Melbourne Cup Look – Seville Twist

(Español abajo) Give me an excuse to dress up and I’ll be there. With the Spring Carnival season, horse racing in Australia isn’t just a matter of sports and bets, it is by far one of Australia’s most outstanding traditions. Once spring arrives various races take place throughout September and October, but Melbourne Cup is called “the race that stops a nation” for a reason, where people from different parts of the country arrive in Melbourne to witness the event live and to celebrate in style…

As you would imagine, the racecourse was from its beginnings in 1810 a meeting place for colonists of all classes, but always enhanced by ‘all the Beauty & Fashion of the Colony’.  Yes the Melbourne Cup is indeed also a fashion scene, one of the most attractive highlights of this occasion, at least for those who mind what they wear. The celebration has a major focus on people dressing accordingly (at specific locations more so),. one might think a dress and a hat will do, but you want to look a bit dressy, to match the level of this race and its history.

It was my first time at this event, deciding to attend just one week prior but still scored a great location to witness the splendour of the horses and enjoy the atmosphere. Yes I found the perfect dress, with a matching hat putting together a Seville inspired look, however the weather that day demanded a coat and umbrella. The gambling was not just about the horses but about the weather too!, since the idea is to attend in  fine spring attire, but It wasn’t that bad after all, .there was a moment of light rain for about 10 minutes towards the end, luckily I secured these images to perpetuate my first time ever at the Melbourne Cup.

About the dress code – According to tradition ladies should wear a proper spring dress and headpiece, the level of elegance and sophistication will depend on your location. But nowdays there is a level of freedom, the use of jumpsuits and pants are more common as long as the look is gracefully complemented by a charming headpiece which can be from a simple fascinator to a crown or turban, and of course my favourite, the hat… especially if you are outdoors and mind the sun.

Here I’d like to share with you my look, I think I did a good choice…hope you like it!

What I wore – Keepsake The Label Dress, Gucci Bag, Hat from David Jones, Swarovski pendants
