Collette Dinnigan – 25 five years of fashion

With a career that goes back to the early 90´s, a name synonymous with Australian fashion, and a remarkable presence at international venues such as Paris Fashion Week, many pages would be required to explore the outstanding episodes of this renowned aussie designer´s life, but certainly the retrospective exhibition at the MAAS to celebrate her 25 years in the industry say it all about Collette Dinnigan´s genius.

Established in the land which saw her grow as a designer and acclaimed on the parisian circuit Dinnigan is a builder of Australia´s fashion legacy, aside from being the first Australian designer to be invited to Paris fashion Week in 2005 by the the Chambre Syndicale Du Pret a Porter as part of the prestigious paris schedule, and among many recognitions, she´s been honoured with a Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World Award. She joins other honorees including Donna Karan, Anita Roddick and Jenny Craig.

As a foreign observer I was thrilled to attend the media preview of her exhibition getting a closer look at her work and background throughout a magnificent selection of around 100 designs, some of them worn by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Taylor Swift.

Con una carrera que se remonta a principios de los 90´s, un nombre el pedestal de la moda australiana y una trayectoria en pasarelas internacionales como París Fashion Week, serían necesarias varias paginas de este blog para recorrer los episodios mas sobresalientes en la vida de esta renombrada figura Australiana, pero ciertamente la exhibición en retrospectiva que el museo de Artes Aplicadas presenta sobre su trabajo durante 25 años es todo un testimonio de la genialidad de Collette Dinnigan

Consagrada en la tierra que la vio crecer como diseñadora y aclamada en el circuto francés Dinnigan es una forjadora del legado de moda en Australia, además de ser la primera diseñadora en este país en ser invitada en 2005 por la Chambre Syndicale Du Pret a Porter a ser parte de la prestigiosa agenda parisina,  así como ser  galardonada con el premio a  Lider de mujeres emprendedoras del mundo a junto a otras destacadas figuras como Donna Karan, Anita Roddick y Jenny Craig entre otros muchos reconocimientos y logros.

Como observadora foránea en tierras australianas,  asistir a la presentación preliminar de su exhibición fue una grata oportunidad para dar una mirada cercana a su trabajo y conocer un poco de su trayectoria a través de una magnifica selección de diseños entre los que se pueden apreciar varios modelos llevados en alguna oportunidad por celebridades como Nicole Kidman y Taylor Swift

La exhibición da la bienvenida con tres diseños representativos de su linea de novias, uno muy destacado este vestido de novia inspirado en Art Deco con incrustaciones de Swarovski.

Then an impressive display of her glamorous yet audacious vision, which shows a trend towards old fashioned modern sync as well as romance and fierceness. Generous use of ornament and embellishment are key features of her creations.

Luego el impresionante despliegue de su glamurosa y al mismo tiempo audaz visión, en la que se destacan colecciones que armonizan antaño y modernidad así como romanticismo con un toque ferocidad junto con un generoso uso de ornamentos y apliques como sello distintivo en sus creaciones.

A selection of Orient inspired designs from the late 90´s, the first model, presented during the fall – winter PFW show at Le Carrousel Du Louvré in París

Una selección de diseños inspirados en Oriente a finales de la década de los 90´s, el primero de la serie correspondiente a Otoño Invierno 1998-99 y presentado en Le Carrousel Du Louvré in París.

A memorable tour for visitors and definitely a must see for fashion lovers in Sydney. The exhibition will be open to the public from september the 5th 2015 until  August the 28th 2016 at the powerhouse museum.

Un tour memorable para visitantes y un obligado para los amantes de la moda en Sydney. La exhibición estará abierta al publico desde septiembre 5 del año en curso a Agosto 28 de 2016 en el Museo de Artes Aplicadas.
