When “disconnecting from our daily fast lives becomes a necessity, one really understands the true appeal of a getaway to the countryside, looking for an escape to a slower pace place, with lots of fresh air and old rustic charm, but if on top of that you find a fine retreat to spend the night after a long day of discovery then it’s a luxurious bonus! With Bowral becoming a favorite destination of ours, it right on queue to find a place to call home during our holidays in the area, we were lucky enough to find a gem!
Nested in the heart of the Southern Highlands is the Gibraltar Hotel Bowral, a splendid boutique accommodation surrounded by the forest and gardens of Bowral, with excelling facilities and first-class service this venue promised a memorable experience, but it exceeded our expectations.
While this hotel is quite popular as a wedding venue in the countryside, and as a hub for golf lovers, it’s definitely a desirable boarding for a family, friends get-together, romantic plan, and indeed a “me time” type of escape. In our case, we wanted to explore a bit more of Bowral, but as soon as we checked in, we realized Gibraltar Hotel Bowral trully defines “staycation” at its best with lots of comforts and entertainment.
One of the things we appreciated the most about our stay, was the intimacy and serenity the hotel provides, even tho there was a wedding event, this well-organized & managed hotel can pull off functions without compromising your stay – the rooms are quite soundproof and one can still feel relaxed without being overwhelmed by other ceremonies.
The Rooms
We stayed at the Executive Suite which overlooks the fairways to Mount Gibraltar. Our first impressions… Tasteful, immaculate, boasting luxury enhanced by natural scenery from a placid balcony. A revitalizing experience in itself – I couldn’t resist the comfort of the bed and the earthy aroma coming from the window due to a splash of rain at the moment, the perfect setting for a little recovery nap. The rooms are equipped with everything you need for comfort, including a full-body mirror for us ladies! The bathroom with a spa bathtub is indeed a plus! ( Half the hotel’s rooms look over the golf course and half look over the car park in case you wonder, but equally cozy and luxurious).
Another aspect to highlight about Gibraltar Hotel Bowral is its immensity – even tho it can host a considerable number of guests it doesn’t feel crowded, you can find solitude and tranquility in various zones while there is a function or event held at another room, which by the way are quite splendid in size, ambiance, and scenery!

Or so I read somewhere – This quote made so much sense during our stay at Gibraltar Hotel Bowral; the delightful areas provide comfort, entertaining, and relaxation, not without being warmly welcomed and assisted by the very attentive staff. Before dinner, we wanted to enjoy the views and of course, a couple of drinks at Harvey’s Bar – with great views, inviting interiors, and live music is the perfect place to spend the night while being treated as a VIP!
Later it was time for dinner at San Fior! First impressions, a very chic, clean-cut space, we loved the very intimate atmosphere, modern styling, and flawless details. A culinary experience enhanced by excelling attention and thoughtful menu options with the best seasonal produce sourced from local growers.
Our choice for entrees were the Garlic king prawns, heirloom tomato salsa, & crusty bread – a very generous serving to say the least, Then we continued to our mains with the Roasted corn-fed chicken supreme, mushrooms, potato gratin & green beans, seriously delicious! And just to enjoy a bit more of the lovely evening, a dessert for two – Chocolate spiced tart!
Wandering around the common areas is a visual delight – inviting and captivating details serving major interior inspo and why not -an impressive backdrop for the holiday photos!
Nothing like waking up the next morning to breakfast with a view – Gibraltar Hotel Bowral offers a complete buffet-style menu to start your day in the best way! It felt quite cozy having breakfast with a serene falling rain through our window!
Yes, there was what they call bad weather outside, but the gym area and indoor heated pool kept us warm and relaxed while enjoying the outdoor views! So regardless of the season or weather, bring your gym gear and swimsuit!
Final thoughts…. It doesn’t take an expert to differentiate what’s excelling from good, and Gibraltar Hotel Bowral is without a doubt one of the best hotels we’ve been to. From the immaculate interiors to the large and modern rooms, to the leisure options not to mention the attentive staff – This retreat was beyond our expectations providing us a pleasant stay and a sensorial experience with the beautiful surroundings – Definitely a place to go back to!
